Everybody loves the holidays. The socialising and being around family and friends is good for the soul but often the over indulgence can leave us physically and mentally depleted.
At ashaya, we believe to stay balanced throughout the holidays you need to be able to relax and enjoy yourself, even a few treats, but not completely let go of your rituals that support your well-being and hormonal balance.
Here are a few suggestions to help get you through the holidays:
Keep your Stress Levels in check
As much as we love entertaining and being around family and friends, the additional work, preparation and being around more people can cause some stress over this period of time. When you are feeling like you need some time out to relax your nervous system, step away for 10 minutes to sit outside and do a little meditation, or some breathwork, or a few yoga poses. Or hide away in the bathroom for 10 minutes and give yourself a mini facial using ashaya In-Flow Face Oil or ashaya Re-Glow Face Oil and the ashaya Kansa Wand.
Eat a Balanced Diet
You cannot deny yourself a slice of Christmas pudding, or a glass of champagne with friends over this holiday period but try to maintain an 80/20 rule with your eating. A day of celebration is best followed by a few days of eating whole fresh foods. If you are the one catering for the holidays, then include salads as an option at the main meals, keeping your plate balanced.
Monitor your alcohol consumption.
Be mindful with your drinking over the holidays. Limit your alcoholic drinks and avoid drinking every day just because you are on holidays. Choose alcoholic drinks with lower sugar levels, create a healthy mocktail drink option, eat food whilst having a drink and then look for alternatives to replace the calming effect of alcohol such as meditation and exercise.
Exercise for the season
You may not feel like continuing your usual gym routine over the holidays, so look for ways to incorporate movement into each day. A walk along the beach or in the local park with a family member for company, a game of backyard cricket with the family, or a swim in the ocean. Take advantage of the warmer weather and do something outdoors each day to move your body.
Sleep
It may be tempting to stay up late talking with family and friends, or sleep in every day but try to not disrupt your body clock too much as this will impact your hormone balance. Try to get at least seven to eight hours of good quality sleep each night. A relaxing bath using a few drops of ashaya In-Flow Body Oil or ashaya Re-Glow Body Oil, will be magic before bedtime. Over summer make the most of the early sunrise, get up before the rest of the house wakes and take that time to maintain one of your health rituals like meditation, exercise or reading.
Continue with your Health Supplements
To maintain hormonal balance, keep up your regime of supplements. Take your daily dose of your ashaya In-Flow PMS & Period Relief or Re-Glow Perimenopause Relief formulations. Do not forget to pack them in your suitcase if you are going away!
